Every year Wellington city hosts a wide range of events, including concerts, sporting matches, live theatre and dance, exhibitions and festivals. The Council supports many of these events through grants, event coordination, and promotional activities.

Slam Jam Streetball Competition

Compete in a streetball tournament or watch the action at the second annual Slam Jam competition.

Prizes will be awarded to winning teams and top individual players and a hip-hop DJ, MC and dancers will provide entertainment between games.

7x7 - The Big Think

Top visionaries, business leaders and policy makers gather for a series of forums where participants have seven minutes each to present insight into their work and vision for New Zealand.



The theme of this year's 7x7 is economic transformation, with a focus on subjects ranging from successfully taking on the global market to ideas that could change our economy and culture.

View 200 works from iconic Kiwi artist Rita Angus at this free exhibition at Te Papa. Paintings displayed include Cass, Fay and Jane Birkinshaw, and Boats, Island Bay as well as studies for paintings that provide insight into the society that influenced her.
